Table Top Sale in the pavilion 23rd April 2016

On Saturday 23rd April Llanvapley Church held a Table Top Sale in the pavilion to raise funds for repairs and improvements to the church. Thanks go to everyone who came along to the event either to sell or to buy. Thanks also to everyone who provided cakes and organised everything so well. Your support was greatly appreciated. A total of £219 was raised.

Llanvapley Church organised a litter pick which took place at the start of May. The work concentrated on the roads around the village but also included parts of Abergavenny. A total of nearly £300 was raised to support the restoration work needed in the church. Thanks to everyone who supported the litter pick which was great fun. Pictured are Jason and Lesley Stoker with a car full of rubbish!

The churchyard Spring Clean on 7th May was a great success with a good crew of volunteers all ready and able to do their bit to smarten up the churchyard and the inside of the church. Thanks go to everyone who helped to make it such a success. Thanks Harry!

On 10th May Mike Penney from the Bell Ringers Association visited Llanvapley Church to inspect the bells as part of the fact finding for the restoration project. Mike was able to confirm that the second bell which is currently not used is in fact cracked. He identified two hair line cracks on the bell caused by corrosion of steel staples which hold the clapper. He was able to give advice on how the church could restore the bell to working order.

Llanvapley Church held its annual Strawberry Tea on Sunday 14th August. The event was very well attended and raised £200. It was particularly nice to see Fred and Jill Hansel. They live in Worcestershire but often return to the village where they lived for many years. Revd. Heidi won the best hat competition and Caleb ate the most strawberries!

On Friday 2nd September an ‘End of Summer’ BBQ was held in the pavilion to raise funds for the repair and restoration fund. Thankfully, the weather was kind and a very enjoyable evening was had by all.  There was a licensed bar and a raffle.  Guests were offered a choice of lamb burgers, sausage and chicken as well as the a selection of salads.  A range of excellent deserts was also provided all for £8.  The evening raised £452 after all expenses had been deducted.
